I started selling homes as a real estate agent in Makakilo HI in 1984 when the area was much less developed and the city of Kapolei was nonexistent.

Kapolei was named after the volcano Pu'u O Kapolei, and is one of the fastest growing areas in Hawaii. Technically not a city itself, Kapolei is on the western coast of the island of Oahu, and includes the communities of Makakilo, Barber's Point, Campell Industrial Park and Ko Olina.
Kapolei initially consisted just of lower Makakilo and the combined older neighborhoods of Honker Hale and Nanakai Gardens located next to Farrington Highway. Barbers Point Naval Air Station, now inactive, was also an integral part of the area.
Since the early 90's Kapolei has seen much development in both residential neighborhoods and commercials and shopping centers. The resort area of Ko Olina which also includes hotels is also located in Kapolei. Kapolei Water Park, with a wide variety of rides, is also a very popular park for both visitors and local residents. Kapolei is also the site of several very popular luaus.
