Kapolei was originally planned to be an urban community in the island of Oahu. Homes began to be built in Kapolei in the late 80’s, being followed by commercial development shortly after. Today, Kapolei has grown significantly as a community as well as an industry.  It has also become the business center for the western region of Oahu.  Population in Kapolei was estimated to be around 15,186 according to the 2010 census, and much of Oahu's future population is predicted to be in Kapolei in the years to come.
