History

Kaneohe Hawaii began as a small farming community on the windward side of Oahu. Its name comes from an old Hawaiian legend about a woman’s husband who was cruel like a piece of sharp bamboo. Kaneohe means “bamboo man”. During the Pearl Harbor attack, Kaneohe was one of the first Oahu communities to be bombed and was heavily damaged. Parks and Recreation

Kaneohe has a variety of recreational areas guaranteed to entertain every family member. Events

Celebrations are definitely a great part of life in Kaneohe. Participants flock in from all areas of the state for the annual Kaneohe Christmas Parade. The parade is one of the biggest community parades in Hawaii and features bands, floats and plenty of Christmas cheer to kick off the holiday season. Kaneohe and Oahu also host several marathons that welcome runners from around the world. Kaneohe's running routes help runners train for races such as the HURT Trail 100 while enjoying some of Oahu’s most beautiful scenery.
