Kaneohe Hawaii began as a small farming community on the windward side of Oahu. Its name comes from an old Hawaiian legend about a woman’s husband who was cruel like a piece of sharp bamboo. Kaneohe means “bamboo man”. During the Pearl Harbor attack, Kaneohe was one of the first Oahu communities to be bombed and was heavily damaged. Today this thriving city of 35,000 is a beautiful residential area seven miles northeast of Honolulu. Kaneohe offers scenic parks, activities, educational opportunities and events for all ages.
